AH! Guess WHAT!

I’m super excited. I finally decided on a name for my online jewelry shop and I’m hoping that you’ll be just as excited once I officially launch the site and reveal the name.

This is just a quick post to let you know this site is NOT dead.. I’ve just had a lot to deal with lately and between that and my second life addiction it’s hard to force myself to blog!

Design Diva Fabrics

Design Diva Fabrics have incorporated a new marketing scheme into their website. This is the first time I’ve came across anything like it… it’s a neat idea! What is it? It’s called Vote Up Count Down. What does that mean? I’ll tell ya. It gives customers who register for a free account (which you should do right now!!) through their site the ability to vote on fabrics. Once a fabric becomes the highest voted fabric it starts to count down the PRICE of the fabric. The price will keep plummeting until someone purchases the fabric and then it’s on to the next highest voted.

They have several different types of fabrics to choose from. Contemporary, VINTAGE (!!), Shabby Chic and more cute patterns to help you with your next DIY project.

So run over to Design Diva Fabrics today and get your free account so you can start voting for your favorite fabrics like this discount Kravet fabric!

Jewelry Preview

I’ve got a few more pieces made. I’m going to preview them here since the shop won’t be up and running until (probably) next month. I’ve still got to think of a name for the shop. Maybe just ‘gerl’ since I’ve been using that for around a decade…? Perhaps.

I found out today that I’ll be getting a couple hundred dollars back from taxes! Which means I can invest in more craft supplies and maybe even a sewing machine! *excited*

I DIY!

I’m finally getting around to posting the pics of my moms birthday present. I decided I’d make her a card and a necklace. I’m pretty new at making necklaces. I used to do a lot of beading when I was in junior high but have long since forgotten how the hell to do it!

So here are the pics!! Let me know what you think… I’d eventually like to have a store here at Mod Gerl showcasing my handmade necklaces and stuff.

My first project…. The mom’s bday.

The front of the super ghetto card I made her. She was impressed though!

The inside of the car.. and the necklace! It was nothing like my original idea but I was pressed for time and could not find a decent “J” charm anywhere. I think it turned out pretty good though (for a first try) and she loved it!

In the beginning they were supposed to be matching.. but again, no amazing “J” charm.. blah! So after coming across this lovely martini glass charm, well, I just couldn’t resist.

Leave me a comment! Let me know what ya think… I’m sure I’ll get more creative as time goes on. I’d like to make some more elaborate designs for sure.

Sew Rad

Stumble Upon has motivated me once again! I came across McCalls Patterns official site and I couldn’t believe my eyes. I seriously need to start saving!!! If I ever get my sewing machine I am totally getting these patterns!!

I used to sew on my moms sewing machine. I’d make barbie clothes when I was little (I wasn’t as much of a tomboy as everyone thought! ha!), stuffed animals, pillows, and I even made some ridiculous pants for a party once. I was so bummed when her sewing machine finally shit the bed. That thing was older than me! It’s still upstairs collecting dust but I’m guessing that antique would cost more to fix than it would for me to get a new one.

The pics are kinda small… so if you click on them it’ll take you to the patterns page in a new window.

Geeze okay.. I’ll stop at six. I can’t believe how many amazing patterns there are now. It seems like the last time I went to look through tons of books at the craft store I could barely find one that I loved! My shopping woes would so be over if I mastered the art of sewing. Maybe by summer I’ll have saved up enough for a machine and a class! :D

If you are a sewing person and have any recommendations for a beginners first machine… please please please leave some suggestions and/or links in the comments!
